What Is The Legion of Mary?

The Legion of Mary is an association of Catholics who with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate have formed themselves in to a legion for prayer and service to the entire world. The largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church with well over 3 million active members in most every country of the world. In 2021 the Legion celebrated its 100th anniversary worldwide. 

Object of The Legion of Mary?

The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation, under ecclesiastical guidance, in Mary's and the Church's work of crushing the head of the serpent and advancing the reign of Christ.

What Does The Legion of Mary Do?

It makes its members better Catholics, first of all, through a balance program of prayer and service in union with the Holy Spirit as He operates through Mary, Mother of the Church. Works include door-to-door evangelization, parish visitation projects, youth work and other spiritual needs of the parish and community. 

How Does The Legion Work? 

Members meet together once a week for prayer, planning and discussion; they do a couple of hours of definite work each week in pairs and under the guidance of a spiritual director. The Legionaries do two hours of evangelization work each week.

Who Can Belong to The Legion?

All Catholics are welcome to join The Legion of Mary. For the first three months there is a probation period and after the three month probation then members become full active members.

Types of Memberships

Active Membership 

-Requires attendance of weekly meeting

-Two hours of evangelization per week

-Daily Rosary and the praying of the Catena

Auxiliary Membership

-Praying members of the Legion of Mary to support the active Legionaries work

-Responsible for praying the Rosary and Legion prayers on a daily basis
